| Description: |
Sugar cane needs a near-tropical climate to thrive and isn't available in Wisconsin anymore. People with a sweet tooth must rely on the sugar beet, a durable root crop that can survive in northern climes. Sugar beets have become a good cash crop in this harsh new world. The statistics above are for a 2-gallon bucket of syrup refined from sugar beets (the bucket is included in the weight). Used as is, it is moderately sweet and will make a tasty pancake topping. It can also be further refined into crystal form, which is more concentrated and thus far sweeter. |
